Description
Putnam Pond is a key start off point for hikers trekking into the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness area. While it also offers interior site camping, which requires a boat for access, most campers prefer to stay in the developed area, where they can try their hand fishing by the dam or rent a canoe or rowboat (prior to the month of July, if you require a rental boat to access your site please arrive prior to the booth closing at 4p.m.). The campsites offer privacy; they are large and well-forested.
Geography:
Putnam Pond is located near Lake Champlain.
Recreation:
Canoeing, boating, and fishing are popular. Hikers will enjoy the trails. The long Swing Trail is 12 miles long, but hikers may choose where to begin the trail. The trail leaves Putnam Pond, headed west, passing Grizzle Ocean, Pharaoh Lake, Glidden Marsh, Crane Pond and Alder Pond. It ultimately ends 0.2 miles west of Paradox Lake Public Campground.
Facilities:
Primitive interior sites, with outhouses and non-potable water, are located on the pond, accessible only by boat. Other sites are located within the main part of the campground, which also features hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dumping station, a recycling center, a boat launch site, a picnic area, and boat rentals.
Nearby Attractions:
Boat tours and ferries on Lake Champlain are popular with visitors. Fort Ticonderoga is 7 miles away. Crown Point Historic Site and Essex County Fish Hatchery are 10 miles away. Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area offers adventures to those willing to journey into its forest.
Reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 9 Month(s) in advance.
