Description
Taylor Pond can be found in the back woods, on a dirt road far from the public mainstream. Fishermen and naturalists come from miles away to spend their vacations in campsites on the back part of the pond or in the mainland campground. The dam, campground, and interior campsites represent the only development on the entire primitive pond. The 10-acre developed campground is surrounded by over 8,000 acres of wild forest state land. Loons, Osprey, Eagles, and many other fauna and flora can be observed in the area.
Geography:
Taylor Pond Campground is located on the northeast corner of Taylor Pond. A dam controls the level of this 4-mile-long, 813 acre "pond."
Recreation:
Boating is a favorite activity (rowboat and canoe rentals are available). The boat launch is located just past the entrance booth and provides the only public access to Taylor Pond. Fishing for lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, and Atlantic salmon is also popular. A 12-mile snowmobile trail goes around the pond, and there are other nearby trails at Catamount Mountain, Silver Lake Mountain, and in the High Peaks Region.
Facilities:
The park offers a variety of campsites, including "drive-in" sites and "boat access only" sites. The campground is primitive; there are no flush toilets or showers, but there are outhouses and water spigots at various locations.
Nearby Attractions:
The nearby Tri-Lakes and the Lake Champlain regions offer additional activities for visitors.
Reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 9 Month(s) in advance.
